The much
anticipated Yorkshire derby between Leeds futsal club and Sheffield FC took
place at Leeds University on the 31st of January.
Sheffield
took the ascendancy straight from the off winning a throw in the Leeds half. A
well worked kick-in resulted in a parry from Ben Mortlock shot to a loitering
Eamon Chapman at the back post for a tap in. After the restart Leeds were quick
to attack but the shot from Daniel Migliozzi was well saved by England
international Curtis Holmes. On 8 minutes a similar worked kick-in yielded
another goal with Danny Mclean tapping in. Eamon snapped upon loose defending
to add another at 3-0. Jefferson Magliozzi grabbed a brace due to lax Sheffield
defending with 2 shots just underneath the goalkeeper. Sheffield extended the
lead through Richard Moore volleying in from an Ollie O’Neil chipped cross.
Ryan Leyshon further extended Sheffield's the lead with a powerful shot which
beat the keeper at his near post. Leeds pulled one back just before half time
with Raphael Collarille driving a strong left footed finish into the bottom
right hand corner. The teams went into the break with Sheffield 6-4 up. At the
start of the second period Leeds took the initiative and went on to lead 8-7
with 4 from Collorille. However Sheffield’s resilience showed and stunning
goals from Ryan Leyshon and Ben Mortlock made the score 11-8 after Richard
Moore had equalized. Joan Garcia scored late on for his first futsal goal in
the English game leaving the score 11-8. Sheffield FC Futsal are now second in
the National League North with their next game a top of the table clash against
Tranmere Victoria at Concord Sports Centre on the 14th of February
