FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Play the Brazilian way

Middlesbrough Futsal Club are looking for boys and girls of all abilities to join the Boro Futsal Academy for season 2009-2010.  The expansion of the junior section of Middlesbrough Futsal Club comes after a successful start for the under-14s team, who travel to Sheffield this weekend for the FA Junior Futsal Finals.

Middlesbrough Futsal Club currently run a senior men’s team, who are top of The FA Futsal League and an Under-14s, who won the Perth Youth Futsal Open in April.  The long term aim of the club is to have teams for every age, male and female, which will produce players to play for the men’s and women’s senior sides in The FA Futsal League, and even for England.  Boro have already produced three England internationals, including current captain, Ryon Leyshon.

Futsal is the only version of small-sided football supported by the world and European governing bodies, FIFA and UEFA.  In England, The FA support the development of futsal, which is progressing rapidly and will eventually benefit the eleven-a-side game in this country.

It's no secret that Brazilians such as Kaka and Ronaldinho played futsal in their youth, and it's obvious that they have superior technical ability to most English players. What Middlesbrough Futsal Club hope to do with the Boro Futsal Academy is to produce technically gifted, English players for the benefit of futsal's future, as well as football.

Members of the first team squad will coach the sessions.  The emphasis will be on fun and participation with samba music and games a large part of the sessions.

Damon Shaw, who coached the under-14s to glory in Perth, is confident that the Futsal Academy can be a success.  "The Under-14s is a blueprint for the rest of the teams in the academy and all the boys who have been involved so far have improved a lot, while thoroughly enjoying being part of the club.

"We are ready to expand to include a few teams now, including girls.  We are looking for players wanting to play in a fun and safe environment and at the same time honing their skills and one day representing Middlesbrough in national and regional tournaments.”

So, if you are interested in trying out this fun version of football, come along to one of the sessions listed below.  Playing for Middlesbrough Futsal Club won’t affect you playing in local football leagues such as the TJFA either and will even teach you new skills to take back to your club!
