Ipswich Wolves 6 Vaughans 4

Vaughans, last years Plate Winners, dug deep to keep the score close against tournament favourites Ipswich Wolves.

Vaughn's left the pitch disapointed, but with the knowledge that as players and a team they had done there utmost.

Ipswich Wolves were excellent throughout the tournament, their futsal pedigree was obvious to spectators and opposition. A Portuguese squad with players and coaches that have been weaned on futsal; they brought a knowledge of  the game  for spectators  to admire.  Individually or as a team,  at set plays, movement around the court, first touch it  was all there in one master class.

Vaughans were never ahead, they were always chasing the game which made their task more difficult.  The final score line is kind to Vaughans as their 4th was with the last kick of the game, Wolves were never in danger of loosing a 3 goal advantage in the latter stages.
A great contest when you consider the exhausting matches both teams had come through over 3 tournament days to achieve a final place. Invited dignitaries are maybe not aware that the teams have played 3 group matches, a quarter and semi final over 3 days. Two of the Vaughans games I watched went to penalty shoot outs.  The physical and mental effort expanded before the final cannot be under estimated.

Luis Melville, manager Vaughans, said that the tournament standard was higher than last year and that he expected the level to be higher next year. Vaughns planning for 2008 is already started.

Vaughans Alex Sykes was named tournament top player and also received top scorer award.

Ipswich Wolves 'Bruno' won the tournament best goal keeper award.

The first ever ladies event was won by Watford FC after extra time.
