SHAMROCK ROVERS moved to the top of the Emerald Futsal League (Leinster) with a hard-earned victory over Dublin Santos at the BRL Umbro Arena in Ballymun on Monday night.

Anderson Nunes
Brazilian star and team captain Anderson Nunes (pictured) was the star of the show for the Hoops as he bagged two important goals that proved decisive.
Dublin Santos are the only team to have taken any points off Rovers so far this campaign, clinching a 6-5 victory on the opening day of the campaign.
Rovers started well and went ahead midway through the first half through Nunes but Santos replied soon after when Hungarian futsal international David Nyari squeezed a shot through from a tight angle.
Another Brazilian star Marco Prudencio restored the Rovers lead just before the break and that lead was extended further when a third South American player found the net, Jeronimo De Frietas, making it 3-1.
Dublin Santos have a couple of Brazilian aces in their ranks two and Mairon Oliveira bagged two goals to bring it back to 3-3.
Nunes restored the Hoops lead once more but this was cancelled out when Nyari found the net direct from a corner via a massive deflection off a Rovers defender.
But the Hoops would not be denied the three points and Prudencio got on the end of a low cross by Nunes to smash home an important winner.
Rovers face second-placed Alpha Futsal Club in their next fixture at the same venue on Saturday at 1.10pm. All Hoops fans are welcome to attend. The venue is behind the Trinity Comprehensive next to Ballymun Garda Station.

Kickers Futsal Club have completed the signing of England Futsal International Kyle Joryeff |

Joryeff, who represents the International team will be joining the
current squad and will be the primary signing prior to the transfer
deadline. Club and Player are set to finalize the paperwork but that is
a formality. Kickers Manager Rogerio Oliveira said "I am delighted to
welcome Kyle to Kickers Futsal Club. It is no secret that we
have been looking to strengthen the team and in Kyle I feel we have
recruited a world class player. He brings a wealth of International
experience which will no doubt prove to be invaluable."
Oliveira was full of praise for the International and added, "Kyle has
been a player that I have admired for a while now, and I have been keen
to have him signed up for quite some time. He is strong, quick, reads
the game well and will be an influential figure within the squad."
This signing will boost the attacking options for Manager Rogerio
Oliveira and with the player being a 'British' player the signing falls
perfectly in line with the clubs 18 month development programme to
produce English Talent within the south East Region of the country.
The primary fundamentals of the club are not solely focused on winning,
but to bring Futsal to a totally different level from what it is today.
The difference that Kickers are making is that they are solely focused
on the player development of English born players and integrating them
with a few South American players from where they can learn different
styles and approaches to the sport.
The future looks bright at Kickers

Boro win to seal place in national playoffs |

Middlesbrough saw off the challenge from second placed team Sheffield & Hallamshire to seal a place in the playoffs with a hard fought 5-3 win on Sunday. Only Loughborough can now overtake Boro meaning a top two finish, and a shot at the English title is guaranteed.
There are two games left in The FA Futsal League North and Boro need four points to take the title and go into the playoffs as winners, but the final two games aren’t until September.
Once again it was a tight affair and wasn’t won or lost until the last few minutes. Both teams had their share of the luck that took the game into the final ten minutes poised at 2-2.
A draw would suit Boro, but it is neither safe nor wise to play for a draw in futsal, where attack really is the best form of defence, as Sheffield and Hallamshire pressed on. They did hit the post before Boro broke only for Robbie Bettson to be dragged back while through on goal resulting in a red card for Jozef Kutnik. Middlesbrough had the advantage but failed to capitalise on two minutes with an extra body on the pitch and with four minutes remaining it was anybody’s game.
Sheffield resorted to the most attacking tactic in futsal and used a flying keeper, where they replace their goalkeeper with a more skilful player to create superiority in attack to try to win the game. A dangerous tactic if not well versed and Boro, with the pace they possess are more than happy to soak up pressure, hitting teams on the counter attack. It was such a move that broke the deadlock as Boro stole the ball to counter attack ending with a Matt Wootton finish.
A two goal cushion was opened before Sheffield got one back. However, Leyshon, straight from centre foxed two players before only having one more to beat, which he did to create a one on one with the flying goalkeeper making it 5-3. He slotted the ball away and Boro went wild, knowing they had done enough to win, and qualify for the national championship playoffs in October.
Manager Damon Shaw was understandably emotional after the final whistle, “All the players put in the best team performance of the season and battled until the end to take us to the playoffs. It’s been a long season already, but now we can relax in the knowledge we are three wins away from a place in the UEFA Futsal Cup (Champions’ League of Futsal). It was a fantastic team effort, but Jamie Russell, making his debut in goal at only 16 was an outstanding performer.”
“I’d like to take this opportunity to thank our main sponsors, Hertel and TFM radio for supporting us despite not knowing what futsal is. Hopefully now people of Teesside will start to take notice and we can do the region proud and bring back the national title!”
Boro don’t play until September 13th when they host FC Barsa Leeds at Thornaby Pavilion. To celebrate reaching the playoffs entry will be FREE for the final home game of the season.

Grimsby gave
Middlesbrough a scare on Sunday and ran them close in an end to end match, but
it was the Teessiders who came out on top to reclaim pole position in the
league as Sheffield & Hallamshire faltered in Manchester. It was
possibly the most important three points of the season so far with games
falling away fast and little chance for recovery from any hiccups. Boro
can now qualify for the National Championship playoffs with a win next weekend
over second placed Sheffield & Hallamshire.
Boro started well
and created a few chances before Grimsby took an unexpected lead early in the
game before doubling it shortly after to shock Middlesbrough.
It was end to end
stuff, and it wasn’t until 6-6 that Boro finally went ahead as Hamblin, with
his fourth goal of the game, gave Boro a 7-6 lead turning the game in Boro’s
favour. The clock was ticking and at 7-6, Boro tried to keep possession,
but the dangerous Matt Payne was a constant threat, finding space and hitting
the target more often than not. Shane Garvie got the equaliser, but Danial
Hornigold received his second yellow card for an over the top celebration
resulting in a red card and Boro took the lead with a player advantage.
