Sheffield FC Futsal started the day joint top of the league with Manchester FC, who were not in action at the weekend. This provided Sheffield FC with the chance to take the ascendency into the final stages of the season with a victory against Leeds Futsal Club at Concord Leisure Centre.
The game started with both teams playing hesitantly until Leeds scored in the 4th minute after an incisive counter attack and finish from Jose Alves De Souza. Sheffield FC Futsal gained confidence and started to dominate with goals from Mark England Woodcock and Richard Moore to make the score 3-1 to Sheffield at half time.
In the second half, Sheffield FC Futsal opened up the Leeds defence at will showing fantastic creativity. Leeds substituted the goalkeeper for an attacking player to try and get back into the game. Sheffield counter attacked this tactic on multiple occasions scoring 8 second half goals through Ryon Leyshon x 2, Richard Ward x 2, Richard Moore x2 , Joan Agusti x1 and Oliver Wheatley O'Neill with Leeds scoring a consolation (De Souza) to make the final score 11 - 2.

Middlesbrough
Futsal Club have been broadening their horizons in player recruitment
and have
signed up ex Darlington Football Club schoolboy Paul Johnson, just 17
years of
age, after showing a lot of potential over a short trial period.
Johnson
was released from the Darlington Football Club Centre of Excellence just
before
being given a YTS contract last season and has been playing futsal as
well as
football at Queen Elizabeth 6th Form College, where, along
with Josh
Philips, he was spotted by manager Damon Shaw.
Shaw is
keen to give youth a chance and thinks Johnson and Philips are at the
perfect
age to make the transition to futsal.
“A lot is
made of futsal being light years behind other countries until we have
kids
playing it at under-10 all the way through but I think 16-18 is just as
good a
time as any to start playing futsal, especially with players who have
been at
football academies and centres of excellence.
They’ll have very good basic skills and with their age, the
transition
will be quick. Javi Rodriguez didn’t
play futsal until he was 17.
“Futsal is
a great way for those leaving pro clubs to continue playing at a high
level and
while it’s still amateur, it does offer opportunities that perhaps
football
won’t – playing in The UEFA Futsal Cup (Champions’ League of Futsal) and
earning caps for England for example.”
Paul
Johnson could make his national league debut on Sunday against Tranmere
Victoria after helping Middlesbrough to clinch the fifth successive Tees
Valley
Futsal League title on Friday, scoring in a 5-4 win over Teesside Futbol
Sala.
The match
kicks off at 2pm at Thornaby Pavilion, doors opening at 1pm. It costs only £2 for adults and £1 for kids. For more information go to www.BoroFutsal.com.
Worldstar Deportivo won the Hampshire Cup on Sunday, they
needed to beat last
years winning team Newbury College by 2 goals, they did the
business winning 10-2.

Liverpool Futsal Club 2 - 8 Sheffield FC Futsal
Sheffield FC Futsal travelled to
Liverpool hoping to gain 3 points to stay top of the FA National Futsal League
North. The teams met in January on the opening day
of the season with the visitors Liverpool causing a major upset by winning the
game 4-2 on their national league debut.
Since this result, Sheffield has
improved considerably sharing 1st place in the league with Manchester FC while
Liverpool is looking to avoid relegation in their 1st year playing
national league futsal.
Some important players were
missing for Sheffield, but they started the game strongly and opened the
scoring through England international Ben Mortlock on 3 minutes. Richard Ward
playing his 2nd game for the club increased the lead in the 12th
minute before Mortlock scored again a minute later to finish the half with a
3-0 lead.
In the second half, Sheffield
dominated the game and continued to press for more goals but they were
struggling to increase their advantage. After a string of missed chances,
Sheffield FC scored their 4th and 5th goal through Ward and Thomas Frazer
respectively. William Christophers scored his 1st and 2nd
goal of the game in the 33rd and 35th minute of the game to
make the score 7x0. Liverpool managed to score 2 consolation goals in the 36th

the table.
Capoeira group Biriba Brazil based in Sheffield will be
doing a presentation at 3pm before the game. Brazilian teacher Guery
Tibirica

students. Capoeira classes are held every Wednesdays at John Street in

Middlesbrough lost their second successive home game 4-3 to league leaders Manchester on Sunday at Thornaby Pavilion. It was a must win game for Middlesbrough if they were to repeat their playoff appearance of 2009, but Manchester have the playoffs in their sight and finished the game off in the first half.
Despite trailing 4-0 at half time, Middlesbrough fought back in the second half with a goal from Paul Smith and two penalties from Robbie Bettson but it wasn’t enough to overturn the four goal deficit, though it did restore some element of pride.
Manager Damon Shaw was philosophical in defeat and reckons Manchester can be the first team from the North to win the playoffs.
“They were the best team we’ve played, on both occasions, and I think they will go into the playoffs with a good chance of the title. We’ve now got to finish the season as strongly as we can and pick up as many points as we can. It might not be enough to finish in the top two, but we have to do our bit and hope Sheffield or Manchester drop points.”
Tranmere Victoria make the journey to Teesside for this weekend’s match and you can watch the Boro for only £1. Tickets cost £2 for adults and £1 for kids with a family ticket costing £4. They can be bought online at BoroFutsal.com or you can pay on the day. The doors open at 1pm and kick off is at 2pm at Thornaby Pavilion.
