MIDDLESBROUGH SIGN DARLINGTON YOUNGSTER

19 Feb 2010

Josh Phillips has signed for Middlesbrough in time for Sunday’s home clash with Liverpool at Thornaby Pavilion.

Phillips
is 17-years-old and goes to Queen Elizabeth 6th Form College in
Darlington. He was at Darlington’s centre of excellence and is also in
the English Colleges team.

Despite only getting into futsal at
college recently, Josh stood out when Middlesbrough manager Damon Shaw
took the college team for a coaching session and Shaw has snapped him
up to play for Middlesbrough, further adding to his young local squad.

"Josh
has a lot of potential and seems to be a natural futsal player. He’ll
fit into the team very well as we’re a young team learning together so
he’s joining us at the right time. Shaw said. " There’s no pressure on
him at all, as with any of the team this season.

"We’re at the
start of a long term project to qualify for The UEFA Futsal Cup so
we’ll take each game as a learning experience but if we can continue
picking up points, who knows, we may well be ahead of schedule!"

You
can watch Boro this Sunday for £2 adults and £1 under-16s at Thornaby
Pavilion, kick off 2pm. Lovemiddlesbrough will be giving out
merchandise and Boro will be wearing their new strip adorning their new
sponsor.
