100 YOUNG LEADERS READY TO LEAVE THEIR LEGACY AT FOOTBALL FUTURES CAMP.

The FA Football Futures Programme aims to recruit, retain and develop young people into volunteering in football and inspire them to create a legacy in grass roots football.

Last month, 100 Young Leaders from all over the country descended upon Hereford Royal National College for the Blind for the seventh National Football Futures Camp. The leaders were selected by their County Football Association to attend the week-long event on the basis of their commitment to their County FA Football Futures programme and the volunteering work that they have been involved in within a Charter Standard Club or League.

The first part of the week consisted of six leadership-based workshops across different areas including Media, Equality and Futsal. During the second part of the week, Leaders received two days training in their chosen specialist area; Coaching, Refereeing or Football Development.

The programme was planned and delivered by The FA Youth Council, led by Lauren O’Sullivan and Laura Danskin – Chair and Vice-Chair respectively. Both Lauren, Laura and the rest of the Youth Council have all been part of The FA Football Futures programme and attended camp themselves as Young Leaders, meaning the 2012 Football Futures Camp truly was an event delivered by young people, for young people.

FA Education Project Officer, Steve Swallow said: “The feedback from Leaders, Staff and Tutors alike has been fantastic. The Youth Council have done a fantastic job in delivering probably the best camp that we have ever delivered – it really showed what can be achieved by working with young people in this way….the standard of leaders was higher than ever, which is testiment to the work that County FAs are doing, delivering high quality Football Futures programmes.”

If you are aged 14-24 and interested in volunteering, please contact your County Football Association, who will tell you how you can get involved. Alternatively, you can keep track of developments by following The FA Youth Council on Twitter or you can ‘Like’ our Football Futures Facebook page.
