MELKSHAM (WILTSHIRE) FOOTBALLERS NET £2K IN FUTSAL MARATHON

A group of Melksham women footballers helped raised £2,000 for charity by taking part in a 10-hour five-a-side marathon.

The 10-strong team played with 21 others in the Futsal marathon at Swindon Futsal Arena.

The event was raising cash for Bristol Children’s Hospital, in recognition of the treatment given to 11-year-old Calne girl Alice Strange, who is now in remission from leukaemia.

Playing for 10 hours and 10 minutes, to beat the record of a team from Birmingham, the match finished up with a scoreline of 169-166.

Organiser Perry said: “It went really well. We think we’ve raised, with the money still to come in, just over £2,000. We’re really pleased.

“Everyone really enjoyed themselves and kept going right until the end. It was a tight game and that really helped.

“At one point, there was a 20-goal deficit to one team and things started to flag, but they brought it back and it was really competitive.

“Everyone is really proud, we raised a lot of money for a good cause.”
